What Is Victim Advocacy?

Project HELP's victim advocates are certified thru the Florida Crime Prevention Training Institute.  The Office of the Attorney General recognizes the competency and professionalism of advocates. Emphasis is placed on legislative mandates, community resources and available services to assist victims of crime. Other topics include the impact of crime; crisis intervention strategies; cultural/ethnic issues; legislatively mandated services; and presentations on child abuse, homicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, identity theft, victims with disabilities and the elderly populations, cyber crime and children, and global victim issues.

Project HELP's Advocates offer crisis intervention, peer counseling, grief counseling, criminal and civil justice advocacy, court accompaniment, application assistance for Victims Compensation & Address Confidentiality programs, information on victim rights, and referrals to community resources.
